Industry-specific training for biotech workers

Does your company rely on a workforce trained in specific biotechnology or bioprocessing skills? Are you frustrated by the cost and inefficiency of sending employees out of town for training--or by the loss in productivity you incur when you use your own employees to provide on-site training?

CBET is the only organization in the Rochester region to offer corporate biotechnology training customized to individual company requirements. Developed and delivered by RIT faculty and industry experts, CBET training programs feature:

Case examples

The architectural and engineering firm Sear-Brown Inc. (now Stantec Inc.) wanted to enter a new line of business designing space for bioprocessing and biomanufacturing operations. At a custom-designed CBET workshop, Sear-Brown’s architects and engineers spent three days learning about bioprocessing—even gaining hands-on experience using autoclaves, incubators, fermentors and other related pieces of equipment. At the end of the session, Sear-Brown personnel were far better prepared to discuss bioprocessing design needs with prospective clients.

The vaccine developer Vaccinex Inc. wished to hire a group of people being downsized by a pharmaceutical company that was relocating. These employees, all scientists, possessed every skill set the company wanted, save one: knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques. CBET consulted with the Vaccinex management and then developed and delivered a two-week, 80-hour training program that taught the new employees all they needed to know about how to grow and maintain mammalian cells in culture to meet Vaccinex’s specifications. All are now fully employed with the company.

Enzyme manufacturer Genencor International found itself spending too much time and money sending employees out of town for job-related training. The solution was to engage CBET as its training partner. During a three year period, CBET conducted more than a dozen training sessions for Genencor employees ranging from dockworkers to research scientists. (See Close-up: Genencor International.)

How it works

CBET faculty will create non-credit courses, workshops or seminars customized to the specific needs of your employees. These are not “one size fits all” courses designed without your input or that force you to guess whether the content will be valuable to you. Because each course is unique to your needs, the cost will depend on the length of the program and the number of enrollees.
