Dr. Gary Skuse

Modern science transcends traditional disciplines, and it’s clear from his resume that Dr. Gary Skuse exemplifies the definition of a modern scientist. He completed a Ph.D. in developmental biology, and then expanded his horizons by studying gene expression in viruses as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School. Those combined experiences provided a foundation for his work in human genetics and human tumor suppressor genes at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

First and foremost, Dr. Skuse is an accomplished and committed educator. A senior colleague commented: ”I have attended the lectures of many members of the RIT faculty over the years, and believe that Dr. Skuse is one of the very best. He is talented … and a marvelous communicator of ideas.” As Director of Bioinformatics at RIT Dr. Skuse coordinated the development of one of the nation’s first combined BS/MS degree programs in Bioinformatics.

Beyond RIT, Dr. Skuse provides consulting services for a number of local, national, and international clients in the areas of human genetics, biotechnology, forensic DNA analysis, bioinformatics education and information management. He has co-authored several US and European patents, written and edited professional books, published numerous scientific articles, and has served as the Chief Information Officer and founding partner of a scientific information and services provider.
